Magick does not always consist of elaborate, hour-long rituals, the use of multiple sacred tools, or calling Elements and Deity within a sacred circle. Not every time, no. Our lives are magick. There is magick within us, deep in our cells, our breathing, and within every action that is made with intent. Once this is learned and acted upon, you are unstoppable. You are goddess. You are a witch.
For the first of what I hope are many blog entries about utilizing the magickal in the mundane, I present a coffee meditation. This is a perfect little ritual that can be performed daily. It doesn’t take long, only as long as you need it to be. It is a great way to start the day, especially if you’re a coffee junkie like me with a very unmagickal 9 to 5 job where the spark of the divine can sometimes be lost in the monotony of work.
You only need coffee, the fixings you put into it, and a quiet space. Magickal correspondences are as follows: Coffee is for energy and clarity. Milk is for protection. Sugar assists with purification and love. Stevia helps with healing and success. Feel free to look up correspondences for anything you use that is not mentioned here. If you like your coffee black, this ritual still works for you, too.
Pour each ingredient in with a deosil (clockwise) motion, thinking of each one’s attributes as they are added to the coffee. When finished, stir the coffee deosil as many times as needed, and then one time widdershins (counterclockwise) to prevent those dreaded too-much-coffee jitters.
Go to a quiet place and get comfortable. I prefer sit in front of one of my altars. Think of three goals you’d like to accomplish today. They can be big or small. Take a sip of the coffee after meditating on each goal, for a total of three times. If you really want to, you could write them down, and then burn the list the next morning as you write three new ones. Thank the Goddess and ask for her blessings as you encounter a new and exciting day.
Feel free to do this at work too, but only creating the intention-infused coffee. No meditation needed. And just like that, a quiet morning routine has become magickal.
